Revere, MA
Situated across from the Wonderland T Station on the site of the former amusement park, Revere’s New High School transforms the landscape as both infrastructure and an immersive educational tool, weaving learning, ecology, and community throughout the campus. Given the site’s proximity to the coast and climbing concerns of sea level rise, stormwater management plays a central role in the landscape design. A healing garden, learning garden, rain gardens, pollinator habitats, and Miyawaki forest support hands-on outdoor learning, ecological stewardship, and connection to nature.
At the campus core, a flexible outdoor courtyard accommodates dining, recreation, and gatherings, while outdoor classrooms extend learning beyond the building. Within the compensatory flood storage area, a nature walk and outdoor classroom immerse students in local ecosystems. The planting design draws inspiration from the nearby Rumney Marsh Reservation, replicating native upland and marshland communities to support biodiversity, strengthen ecological resilience, and celebrate Revere’s unique coastal landscape.
