Mikyoung Kim is the founding principal of MYK, an international landscape and urban design practice. Her unique approach to the design of public space is dedicated to strengthening our collective health through a focus on experiential design. Her studio is renowned for landscapes that celebrate the shared human experience, bringing people closer to the natural world and one another.
Mikyoung's award winning portfolio spans public parks, campuses, and health environments, including the Crown Sky Garden, The Chicago Botanic Garden Learning Center, and the Michigan Central Park with the Ford Motor Company. Her transformation of the Seoul Cheonggye River has been described by the New York Times as a catalyst for "cities from Singapore to San Antonio... resuscitating rivers inspired by Seoul's example." In close collaboration with leading healthcare experts, her studio's research has produced evidence-based design strategies that demonstrate how our shared spaces can measurably transform human health. Mikyoung is the recipient of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum National Design Award, the ASLA National Design Medal and the ASLA Firm of the Year Award. Her work has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative companies.

Throughout her career, she has crafted an exceptional body of work that have been highlighted in the New York Times, the Washington Post, National Geographic, Landscape Architecture Magazine, Architectural, and the Chicago Tribune. Mikyoung is a recipient of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award and the ASLA National Design Medal. A frequent international speaker, Mikyoung has spoken at Yale University, the Gardner Museum, Stanford University and the National Building Museum in Washington DC. She was named by Architecture Digest as an AD Innovator and is a Fellow with the American Society of Landscape Architects. Mikyoung's firm is recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative companies in the world.

Emmett is an Associate and Senior Project Manager with extensive experience leading large-scale public parks and urban renewal projects. His background gives him the skills to lead multidisciplinary consultants and design teams on resilient-focused planning projects across the firm.
Emmett is committed to collaboration and believes thoughtful design is a critical role in strengthening communities. He values a creative process grounded in solving problems at hand. At MYK, Emmett leads project teams on a wide range of work, from the resilient Texas Medical Center Research Campuses to urban infill and public park spaces in downtown Boston. His current work includes the TMC Helix Park, Eastman McDermott Court at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the campus at New York Presbyterian Cancer Center. Emmett holds a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia.

Designer
Laura is a Designer trained as an Architect with a focus in Urban Design. Her work explores the critical intersection of climate change and human health and well-being, with a strong commitment to human-centered design. Laura also has experience in design fabrication, giving her a deeper understanding of materials and processes.
Laura’s current work includes the Michigan Central Park in Detroit, Duke’s East Campus Urban Vision Plan, and the Revere High School Resiliency Campus Plan. She also directs the firm’s social media and website development, helping to share the studio’s work across platforms. Laura is the recipient of the American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) Medal for Academic Excellence for her thesis on embracing inland inundation. She Holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Bryan Chou Associate Principal

Associate Principal
Bryan Chou is a Senior Designer focused on the firm’s urban work, working within the development of plazas and parks within the public realm. He has presented at numerous conferences, including the Greater and Greener Parks Conference and the Cooper Hewitt Design Symposium. Bryan is active in both the local and national design community and has served as a jury member for the Philadelphia Airport Image Maker Competitions and the Boston Society of Landscape Architects’ awards program. His current work includes the TMC Helix Park, the campus at New York Presbyterian Cancer Center, and the Northwestern Medical Tower.
Bryan has also been a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Pathways to Inclusion program and has served as a guest critic at the Harvard graduate School of Design and at the Rhode Island School of Design. Bryan is a registered Landscape Architect and holds a Master in Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Planning from the University of Washington.

Ian is an Associate Principal and serves as the Technical Director for the studio. He manages projects through all phases of development, with a special focus on guiding work seamlessly from design development through final construction and implementation. At MYK, Ian fosters close collaboration between designers and builders to enhance landscape detailing and streamline the construction process. His current work includes overseeing the TMC Helix Park, Eastman McDermott Court at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the campus at New York Presbyterian Cancer Center. He values the design-build environment for its ability to drive rapid innovation, introduce new construction methods, and advance material applications.
With strong commitment to sustainability, Ian implements environmentally responsible design strategies and brings distinguished experience with LEED projects. Ian has lectured extensively on the importance of responsive and sustainable detailing, including numerous presentations at the National American Society of Landscape Architects Convention. Ian holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor degree in Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Ryan is a Project Designer focused on Innovative planting strategies, digital and physical fabrication, and detailed model-making. With a strong background in landscape construction, he brings together expertise and creative design thinking to advance projects from concept through realization. Ryan values both emerging digital tools and traditional methods, believing that balancing the two leads to blending ecological integrity with aesthetic excellence.
Ryan’s work includes the design of a new Botanic Garden in Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as several healthcare resiliency projects. Ryan Holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Ohio State University.

Tian is a Designer trained in both Architecture and Landscape Architecture. She is particularly interested in parametric design and its potential to create dynamic and responsive landscapes. Tian is passionate about exploring the intersection of landscape, architecture, and resiliency.
Tian’s current projects include the Michigan Central Park in Detroit, New York Presbyterian Cancer Center, and the Northwestern Medical Tower. She has received awards from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects and the International Design Ideas Competition for reimagining water rights. Tian Holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Visual Art from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Alek is a Project Designer trained in both Architecture and Landscape Architecture, with a focus on projects that explore the role of history in placemaking. Originally from Poland, Alek’s experience observing the constant transformation of cities shaped his interest in the urban environment and its impact at a global scale.
Alek is a vital member of the MYK research group, contributing to the development of the neurodiversity toolkit as it relates to his project work. His current work includes project sites at the University of Virginia, and Michigan Central Park in Detroit. Alek is the recipient of the Susan Nelson Fleiss Travel Scholarship, which supports international travel for research and personal development through design. He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.

Alexandra is a Designer trained in Architecture and Landscape Architecture with a focus on digital modeling and fabrication, material research, and ecological mapping. She is deeply interested in how places are made and the materials they are made with, bringing a process driven and research informed lens to her work.
Alexandra received the World Landscape Architecture (WLA) Student Award shortlist and was awarded the Martin Hoffert Graduation Prize for her research and discourse. She’s currently working on the Revere High School Resiliency Campus and the Wingrove Academy Resiliency Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies with Honors from New York University, as well as a Master of Architecture and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.

Robbie is a Designer trained as an Architect with experience in Landscape construction. He brings experience in design fabrication, providing him with a layered understanding of the processes from design through final implementation. His work focuses on considering constructability to design engaging environments.
Robbie’s current projects include the Botanic Garden of the Piedmont, and the Revere High School Resiliency Campus. He is the recipient for the Design Excellence award for his thesis on re-engaging urban alleys. Robbie holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Abigail is the administrative assistant for the office, providing administrative support and human Resources assistance. She is passionate about community development locally and globally, aiming to partner with communities to design systems that support holistic health for all.

Ray is a designer trained as an architect with interest in computational design and material reuse. He has experience working across multiple scales in fabrication, from conceptual design to hands-on making.
Ray is currently working on the MIT Eastman McDermott project. He was the Dezeen x Bentley’s Radical Renewal Competition Prize Winner for his thesis and published by Dezeen. Beyond his professional work, Ray actively participates in the BSA’s MakeTank and MKR|MGR groups. Ray holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Patrick is the Studio Project Accountant, overseeing accounts while leading budgeting, financial planning, and reporting. He collaborates closely with our clients and consultants on billing and project financial planning.

Applicants should have effective verbal and written communication skills and experience with project management in all phases of design and construction including construction administration and specifications. Candidates will be responsible for the efficient development of multiple projects at various sizes and complexities and should highlight their experience with construction management, schedule coordination and team/subconsultant management in their resume and portfolios. Visual portfolios should also include technical drawings, construction detailing and specifications from all stages of design.
