At Berkley Community School, the landscape becomes a living storybook where the whimsy of childhood imagination comes to life. Inspired by the wonder, curiosity, and connection to nature found in children’s literature, the landscape of Berkley Community School is meant to encourage discovery, exploration, and environmental stewardship. The worlds of endless possibilities presented to us in our favorites children’s literature are animated to life through a series of outdoor classrooms, playgrounds, and discovery spaces that invite children to learn, play, and connect with the natural world.
The landscape design includes a pre-K playground, K-4 playground, outdoor classroom, thoughtfully designed streetscape and parking areas, and a multi-use recreational landscape featuring sports fields, a walking loop, and discovery zones. By prioritizing universal accessibility, imaginative play, and ecological learning, the landscape creates a dynamic setting for students and the surrounding community that fosters curiosity, connection, and a lifelong appreciation for the natural environment.
