UNC Charlotte: Nexus Plaza
Charlotte, NC
Charlotte, NC
The new gateway plaza at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte serves as a vital entry plaza for this multimodal hub. The plaza is enhanced by stainless steel and etched glass shadow screens that transform the space, featuring an interactive lighting system that engages passengers upon arrival. Custom textured and perforated seating elements create undulating forms that guide visitors toward a central plaza, where the interplay of light and shadow takes center stage. At night, interactive colored lighting elements invite students, faculty, and administrators to explore the area, casting dynamic shadow patterns that draw in users.
