Barcode Lumens

Barcode Luminescence is a sculptural landscape installation that transforms the entrance of the Ocean County Public Library into a dynamic civic landmark. Conceived as both a public gathering space and a visual beacon, the design highlights the library’s role as a center of knowledge, connection, and community. Anchored in a new courtyard with a strong connection to the street, a series of laser-cut steel lanterns stand like illuminated sentinels, guiding visitors toward the building’s entrance. Their patterned surfaces evoke the texture of barcodes (symbols of information-sharing and access) casting intricate shadows that shift with the light. This work celebrates the library’s expansion while underscoring its community mission to enlighten and welcome.
