The Pendulum
Dulles International Airport, Chantilly, VA
Dulles International Airport, Chantilly, VA
The Pendulum Project transforms the airport experience by exploring the ambiguity of time and the cyclical nature of global travel. The project offers travelers with a sense of arrival while highlighting the shifts between global and local time and emphasizing the light conditions that shape our perception of place. The artwork features a series of folded digital lenticular resin walls that wrap around the existing concrete structure. Utilizing lenticular technology, the sculpture displays shifting images when viewed from different angles; one showcasing global satellite images that illustrate light transformations as the Earth orbits the sun, and the other highlighting local seasonal changes through images of native hardwood forests. This immersive piece invites viewers to engage with both linear and cyclical time, offering a dynamic experience that accommodates different paces and durations of interaction.
