The Containment Lab
Trenton, NJ
Trenton, NJ
This fiber optic sculpture embeds below glass pavers at the entrance of New Jersey’s Public Health Environmental and Agricultural Laboratory. The artwork incorporates layers of custom fritted glass, fiber optic cables, and dichroic colored glass, creating a dynamic piece that transforms as viewers walk across it. Cellular images contributed by laboratory scientists depict healthy microscopic plant and animal life on the glass surface. As the viewer moves, these images evolve, with hundreds of points of color beneath the glass symbolizing the virus research being done by this institution; a visual representation of transformation and scientific discovery.
