The Long Hill and Sedgwick Garden is a 114-acre estate once owned by renowned garden designer Mabel Cabot Sedgwick and Atlantic Monthly editor Ellery Sedgwick. Now part of the Trustees of Reservations’ land preservation efforts in Massachusetts, this project aims to restore and expand the historic gardens, which are celebrated for their rare plants and rich biodiversity, making them a national destination for garden enthusiasts.
In collaboration with the Trustees, a comprehensive master plan and concept design shaped this restoration of the Sedgwick Gardens while introducing a new horticultural learning campus. This initiative seeks to build upon Mabel Sedgwick’s vision of outdoor living by reintroducing garden rooms with blurred edges that seamlessly integrate with the landscape. By creating inviting spaces for education and community engagement, the project encourages a deeper connection between visitors and the natural world, ensuring that the Long Hill and Sedgwick Garden continues to thrive as a vibrant destination.
